Don’t you just hate it when your towels start to get a bit funky? You wash them, but something just doesn’t feel or smell right. You have two options: turn them into rags and go buy new ones… or restore those tired towels for more use.
Thankfully, you don’t need to spend that extra expense to purchase all new towels. Take a note from generations before us, and choose to refresh and restore!
Why you should DIY your towel refreshening
Your towels dry off your skin. The last thing you want to do is to soak them in a vat of toxic chemicals, which is exactly what you’re doing if you use regular laundry detergent, boosters, and bleach. Make sure you know what you’re cleaning your laundry with!
DIY Towel Refreshener Recipe
Thankfully, you don’t need to fill your washer with toxic chemicals to freshen up your towels. All you need is some vinegar, baking soda, and hot water. Adding Tea Tree essential oil is a great way to add some fresh aroma too!

- 1 cup of distilled white vinegar
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil
Add the vinegar to your wash cycle, and wash only with the vinegar on the extra hot setting. After the cycle completes, add 1/2 cup of baking soda with 10 drops of tea tree oil added in it, and rewash on the extra hot setting, with only the baking soda and tea tree added. Then dry as you normally would.
Need Tea Tree oil?
Don’t settle for cheap (or expensive) knockoffs… make sure the essential oil you’re buying is the real deal. This is why we choose to purchase our oils from Young Living with their Seed to Seal promise. They are the closest thing you can get to farm-to-table without growing the trees and distilling the oil yourself.
