EMF stands for electromagnetic fields. It refers to the radiation given off by electrical and magnetic forces generated by everything from cell phones to communication towers to microwaves to radios to the earth, itself. Even your body can carry an electromagnetic charge, producing its own electricity (hello nervous system). As in most cases, Natural EMFs are beneficial and necessary to our existence, yet there are many man made electrical fields around each and every electronic device that come with increased risk to our health and wellness.
EMFs are one of those things our modern society can’t function without… unless you’re able to live completely off-grid without electricity or cell phone technology. This really isn’t feasible in today’s day, especially with 5G towers popping up everywhere to connect to 5G satellites, and most wireless communications companies having nearly complete nation-wide coverage.
There are both natural and human-made sources of non-ionizing EMFs. The earth’s magnetic field, which causes the needle on a compass to point North, is one example of a naturally occurring EMF.
Human-made electromagnetic frequencies fall into both the ELF and radio-frequency categories of non-ionizing part of the electromagnetic spectrum. These EMFs can come from a number of sources (basically anything that uses electrical energy… your phone, hair dryer, electrical appliances, electric blankets, smart meters, microwave ovens, wi-fi routers, wireless devices, fluorescent lights, or electric tooth brushes…etc).
Non-ionizing radiation doesn’t seem to damage cells in the way that ionizing radiation does, however there are still some very large concerns around its potential to harm and cause disease in adults and children.
Scientists aren’t sure how EMF radiation damages cells. While there are lots of scientific studies, many only show problems when the radiation levels are so high most normal children and adults will never experience them. However, there are enough studies that haven’t been conclusive (or that have indicated potential problems) that many health experts consider EMF radiation to be a concern.
As the National Cancer Institute’s website points out, there has been a large amount of research on the issue, but most of it is inconclusive. Some studies have shown that harmful radiation from EMFs can lead to breast cancer, leukemia in children and adults, heart disease, and an inability to get deep, restorative sleep at night (which has ripple effects throughout the rest of our health).
What is concerning is that “a review of more than two dozen studies on low-frequency EMFs suggests these energy fields may cause various neurological and psychiatric problems in people. (One study) found a link between EMF exposure and changes in human nerve function throughout the body, affecting things like sleep and mood.” (source).
Many experts also point to the exponential rise in EMF radiation. Our homes and most public and workspaces (including schools) now have wifi. As a society, we’re all more connected than ever to devices of every conceivable kind, including wearable devices. And, people aren’t just encountering all this EMF radiation as adults, with fully formed bodies… our children encounter the same levels of radiation we deal with daily, even before they’re even born.
Important questions are being raised about the growing link between EMF radiation and everything from bad sleep, to poor energy, infertility, abnormal growth and development, and the ability to focus and feel well at school. It’s also worth noting that other countries (including France and Israel) have banned the use of wifi in schools to protect their children. Personally, I see the possible health risks as a solid reason to limit my family’s exposure.

In addition to posing a cancer risk, too much exposure to “dirty electricity” may also cause:

Phototherapy patches are rapidly gaining popularity thanks to LifeWave’s inventive ideas.
